Job Purpose:
To be fully accountable for the efficient and effective day to day management of the manufacturing operations undertaken with our client in accordance with all company and legislative procedures. To contribute to the growth and profitability of the business through by maintaining standards of quality, production efficiency and training of employees. To support site management through effective communications of all operational and production issues.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Production
• Oversee and manage the general day to day production processes and site operations, including dispatch and warehousing,
• Manage efficient production planning, production workload capability and process productivity in line with agreed processing output levels and lead-times for both business units
• Manage and motivate Supervisors and operational employees to achieve the highest possible levels of work performance by playing an effective part in the site leadership team
• Ensure Supervisors and the Technical Manager maintain the highest quality of work being processed through their routine inspection and training of operational employees to the agreed quality standards and use of quality control information on works orders
• Ensure operational employees are instructed and trained in the correct use and inspection of all production equipment on site and to report all faults and maintenance issues immediately, liaising with the Technical Manager and management team
• Manage the production and warehouse areas to ensure it is kept clean and tidy and always minimise the environmental impact of the site
Procurement
• Monitor and manage stock levels of raw materials through regular stock checks to ensure stock is available for all planned work and place purchase orders in a timely manner so as not to delay manufacture
• Coordinate stock deliveries in line with planned production schedule and forward orders
• Manage and maintain a good working relationship with approved suppliers
• Manage and source potential new suppliers where needed and using prescribed method of obtaining multiple quotes and sample approval to ensure best value for money
• Manage the purchase of stock at the appropriate cost and in appropriate volumes to ensure minimum expenditure and exposure
• Manage the goods inwards process to ensure all items received have been checked and counted correctly
• Approve all invoices relating to procured stock items in a timely manner
• Maintain and update stock levels, including standard costs and stock allocation
Training
• Prepare and implement training plans for all operational employees
• Monitor and assess the effectiveness of ongoing training of the production operatives
• Maintain the appropriate training records for employees
• Plan and undertake your own ongoing training through understanding of product construction, technical drawings, materials and manufacturing techniques.
• Undertake additional external training and qualifications such as Lean Six Sigma and ILM level 5 accreditation through agreed training providers and within agreed timeframes.
Communication
• Communicate regularly with staff through formal and informal channels on matters including operational policies, customer and quality issues, and all relevant safety measures.
• Encourage a free flow of ideas and consult with employees to ensure that morale remains high.
• Provide accurate statistical data relating to production times and costs, including OTIF Reporting and staff efficiency / productivity.
• Conduct a monthly feedback session with Supervisors and Technical Manager based on the Monthly Operational Report including productivity, Quality Issues and NCR’s
H.R.
• Manage the recruitment, selection and induction, of operational employees
• Maintain records of holidays and absence for each operational employee
• Carry out Return-To-Work interviews for all employees returning from a period of sickness absence
• Carry out investigation meetings and provide evidential reports for disciplinary meetings.
• Assist in managing cases of long-term absence and liaise with external HR support advisors on more complex cases and cases involving dismissal
Health and Safety:
• Ensure Supervisors carry out and report on site audits covering Health and Safety and 5S.
• Ensure the correct PPE is always worn and housekeeping is managed to the highest possible levels and adhere to Company Health & Safety Policy.
• Manage the safety performance of operational employees and take appropriate disciplinary action for any breaches in accordance with Company Procedure
• Ensure that production activities are properly supervised and carried out by competent, trained staff
• Ensure active monitoring and assessment is carried out for all activities
