Job Title: Production Support Engineer
Location: Ferndown, Dorset
Employment Type: Full-time / Permanent 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 7.30am to 12.30pm
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and technically skilled Production Support Engineer to join our operations team. This pivotal role bridges the gap between engineering and administration, supporting day-to-day production through precise job estimation, procurement, customer account management, and hands-on coordination with clients. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in CNC engineering, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to managing diverse operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Estimating & Process Planning
*
Accurately estimate CNC machining jobs, including:
*
Process steps and cycle times (in collaboration with engineers)
*
Manufacturing methods and workflow
*
Subcontractor requirements and associated costs
*
Prepare detailed quotations and ensure all supporting documentation is completed and issued promptly
2. Purchasing & Materials Coordination
*
Source and procure a range of production materials and consumables:
*
Raw materials and cutting tools
*
Oils, coolants, and other consumables
*
Packaging and general shop supplies
*
Liaise with suppliers to ensure quality, price competitiveness, and timely delivery
3. Customer Service & Account Management
*
Act as the primary point of contact for customer accounts
*
Provide timely updates on order status, production progress, and delivery schedules
*
Manage customer queries and proactively resolve issues to maintain strong, long-term relationships
4. Sales & Technical Support
*
Support the sales team by attending meetings with new and existing customers
*
Offer technical insight into machining capabilities and job feasibility
*
Contribute to the development of quotations and commercial proposals
5. Administrative & Digital Tools Management
*
Utilize Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint) to:
*
Maintain documentation and records
*
Plan and track tasks and workloads
*
Support internal communications and reporting
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements
*
Solid experience in CNC machining and engineering practices
*
Demonstrated experience in job estimation, procurement, and client servicing
Desirable Attributes
*
Previous experience in a subcontract precision machining environment
*
Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for manufacturing
*
Commercial acumen and ability to identify cost-saving opportunities
