The Client
Our client is an established construction and building services contractor based in the Chelmsford area, delivering a varied portfolio of projects across Essex and the surrounding counties.
The business operates across refurbishment, fit-out, new build and building services projects, working with both private and public sector clients. With a growing workload and a strong pipeline of secured projects, they are looking to strengthen their operational team with the appointment of an experienced Project Manager.
The Role
This is a hands-on Project Manager position with responsibility for managing several live construction projects from pre-start and mobilisation through to completion and final handover.
Working closely with the senior management team, you will take ownership of your allocated contracts, coordinating site teams, subcontractors, labour, procurement and programme whilst maintaining control of cost, quality and health & safety.
The role will involve regular site visits alongside project administration and commercial reporting, making it ideal for an experienced construction professional who is comfortable independently managing multiple projects.
Responsibilities
* Managing multiple construction projects from pre-start through to completion
* Producing and maintaining detailed construction programmes
* Coordinating Site Managers, direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials
* Managing procurement schedules and monitoring long-lead items
* Monitoring project costs, budgets and commercial performance
* Managing variations and maintaining accurate project records
* Preparing valuations and assisting with project forecasting
* Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
* Monitoring programme performance and identifying potential delays
* Ensuring high standards of quality and health & safety across projects
* Producing regular project reports for senior management
* Managing snagging, handover, O&M information and defects close-out
Qualifications & Experience
* Previous experience as a Project Manager, Contracts Manager or experienced Site Manager within construction
* Proven ability to manage projects or multiple live sites
* Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and technical drawings
* Experience managing subcontractors, labour, procurement and programmes
* Good commercial awareness, including cost and variation management
* Experience using MS Project would be advantageous
* SMSTS and appropriate CSCS qualification
* Strong communication and client-facing skills
* Trade, HNC/HND or construction-related degree background welcomed
* Full UK driving licence required
