Location: Portsmouth (MoD Project)

The Opportunity
I’m recruiting on behalf of a respected construction contractor with a strong track record delivering new build, refurbishment, and specialist fit-out projects across the UK. They are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a high-profile MoD scheme in Portsmouth.
This role will suit a Project Manager with experience working on defence or other secure/government projects, who can manage complex stakeholder relationships and ensure delivery to strict programme, cost, quality, and compliance requirements.
Role & Responsibilities
*
Full responsibility for project delivery, from mobilisation through to handover
*
Develop and manage programmes, ensuring milestones are achieved on time and within budget
*
Lead and coordinate the site team, subcontractors, and suppliers
*
Ensure compliance with MoD and defence site protocols, security procedures, and health & safety standards
*
Liaise with the client, consultants, and other key stakeholders, providing clear and professional communication throughout
*
Manage and mitigate project risks, driving proactive solutions where needed
*
Oversee quality assurance, ensuring works meet exacting standards and project specifications
*
Report regularly on progress, programme, and commercial performance to senior management
Candidate Profile
Essential:
*
Proven track record as a Project Manager within construction (main contractor environment)
*
Experience delivering projects in live or secure environments (MoD, defence, government, healthcare, or similar regulated sectors)
*
Strong leadership and organisational skills, with ability to drive teams and subcontractors effectively
*
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
*
Sound knowledge of construction contracts and project management processes
*
Full UK driving licence and eligibility for security clearance
Desirable:
*
SC or DV clearance (or ability to obtain)
*
Background in fit-out, refurbishment, or specialist clean room/controlled environment projects
*
Relevant professional qualification (MCIOB, MAPM, or similar)
