Senior Project Manager (MEP) – Specialist Laboratory Project
Location: Warwickshire
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive + Car Allowance + Benefits
Shape the future of world-class STEM facilities
Our client, one of the UK’s leading MEP specialists, is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager (MEP) to lead the mechanical and electrical delivery of a flagship laboratory development at the University of Warwick. This scheme forms a central part of the University’s ambitious £700m STEM Connect Programme – a transformative investment in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics that will cement Warwick’s place as a global leader in research and education.
This is a career-defining opportunity for a senior professional with a strong mechanical or electrical bias, proven leadership credentials, and the ability to operate at a strategic, client-facing level.
The Role – Senior Project Manager (MEP)
As Senior Project Manager, you will hold strategic accountability for the £65m MEP delivery on this highly complex, high-profile scheme. Rather than day-to-day coordination, your role will be hands-off and leadership focused: ensuring technical excellence, political awareness, and stakeholder confidence throughout.
Key responsibilities:
*
Lead the end-to-end delivery of MEP works on a landmark laboratory project, valued at £65m.
*
Act as the strategic interface between client, delivery teams, and stakeholders.
*
Provide credible technical oversight on complex systems, including fume cupboards, specialist gases (argon and others), high-containment ventilation, and laboratory infrastructure.
*
Manage and mentor a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
*
Navigate a politically sensitive environment, maintaining strong relationships with senior University stakeholders.
*
Oversee procurement, commercial matters, risk management, and statutory compliance.
*
Champion safety, quality, and sustainability in line with the University’s vision for world-class facilities.
About You
We’re looking for a politically astute leader with deep technical knowledge and the gravitas to operate at boardroom and client level.
Essential experience:
*
Proven success as a Senior Project Manager within construction / MEP.
*
Strong mechanical or electrical bias, with demonstrable expertise in complex building services.
*
Experience delivering laboratory, pharmaceutical, or specialist research environments.
*
Knowledge of specialist systems such as fume cupboards, containment labs, and specialist gases.
*
Ability to lead strategically, managing through others rather than being hands-on.
*
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the confidence to influence at a senior, client-facing level.
*
Strong commercial, contractual, and risk management awareness.
Why Join?
*
Lead the MEP strategy on one of the UK’s most ambitious STEM developments.
*
Deliver cutting-edge facilities that will shape global research and education.
*
Excellent package including competitive salary, car allowance, pension, and flexible benefits.
*
Genuine opportunities for career progression within a forward-thinking organisation
