Our client in the Defence & Security sector is looking for a skilled Prototype Technician to join their permanent team. The role involves combining electronic and mechanical assembly to create cutting-edge, bespoke products. You will bridge the gap between Engineering and Production, maintaining high-quality standards and streamlining production flow, with an ability to write SOPs if required. Reporting to the Senior Technician (Production Team Lead), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our client's business.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to solder, crimp, undertake mechanical and cable assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610C standards
Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions
Carry out prototype wiring, including crimping, soldering, cable routing, and harness assembly
Build and modify prototypes in a fast-paced R&D environment
Interpret wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
Perform rework and design changes as required during development stages
Conduct basic inspection and testing
Work closely with engineering teams to resolve build and design issues
Job Requirements:
Ability to obtain UK security clearance
Proven experience in wiring, cable assembly, or electromechanical assembly
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring schematics
Skilled in soldering, crimping, and general bench assembly
Strong attention to detail and quality standards
Good manual dexterity and practical skills
Ability to work independently and within a team
Experience in prototype or R&D environments (desirable)
Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards (training or certification beneficial)
Basic electrical testing knowledge (e.g., multi-meters, continuity testing) (desirable)
