Job Description

Psychology Graduate - Mainstream School Support Overview: An exciting opportunity for a Psychology graduate to gain hands-on experience supporting children and young people with additional needs in a mainstream school setting. You'll work with students who require extra support with their learning, emotional regulation, and social development, gaining valuable experience for future careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Teaching, or Therapeutic Work. What You'll Be Doing Supporting pupils with mild to moderate learning difficulties, social and emotional needs, or communication challenges within the classroom. Working alongside the SENCO and teaching staff to implement individual support strategies and adapt learning materials. Assisting students to build confidence, independence, and resilience in their academic and social skills. Delivering small group and 1:1 interventions to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing. Observing and recording pupil progress to help shape effective support plans. Promoting a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can thrive. Skills and Experience You'll Gain Practical experience supporting students with SEND, social communication needs, and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) challenges. Understanding of how psychological principles apply in everyday classroom practice. Experience with behaviour support, emotional regulation, and restorative approaches. Opportunities to work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals (e.g., Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists). Development of strong communication, empathy, and reflective practice skills-essential for future psychology or education pathways. What You'll Need A Psychology degree (or working towards one). A genuine interest in child development, education, and mental health. Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, patient attitude. Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable groups (desirable). A willingness to learn and make a meaningful impact in a school community.
