Psychology Graduate - Mental Health Support Assistant Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience working with children who have autism and mental health needs? An exceptional opportunity has opened up in a specialist school in Oxford, supporting children aged 3 to 11 with a range of additional needs. This is a term-time, full-time position ideal for someone looking to pursue a career in educational psychology, clinical psychology, or child development. What the Role Involves: As a Mental Health Support Assistant: Work closely with pupils who require tailored support due to autism, trauma-related difficulties, or emotional and mental health challenges Assist in delivering structured learning and emotional regulation strategies Create a calm, engaging, and safe learning environment Support teachers with classroom preparation and behaviour management Promote emotional wellbeing, positive relationships, and social development Use your understanding of psychology to contribute to individualised learning plans Help students engage in activities and build confidence in their learningThe right candidate: A recent Psychology graduate with a genuine interest in child development and SEN (special educational needs) A calm, empathetic, and patient personality - you'll be a steady, supportive presence in a child's school day Someone who can use initiative, work collaboratively, and problem-solve in a dynamic classroom environment Ideally some prior experience working with children or young people (e.g., in a school, camp, care, or voluntary setting), though not essential An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of professional boundaries Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply - we can support this process) UK right to work (we are unable to offer sponsorship) What you need to know: Role: Psychology Graduate - Mental Health Support Assistant Location: Oxford Setting: Specialist primary school (ages 3-11) Pay: £85-£100 per day Start date: ASAP or September 2025 Full-time, long-termWhy this role?
