A fantastic opportunity to join an established group of companies within a new and rapidly growing division of the business as a hands-on Purchasing Manager.
Operating on a Hybrid working model (2 days in), the Purchasing Manager will take operational responsibility for the purchasing function, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective sourcing of materials and services to support production and business objectives.
Initially very much a hands-on role, the position will evolve into a management role as the division grows, with responsibility for a team of buyers in the future.
The Purchasing Manager role:
* Manage the day-to-day and weekly purchasing activities to ensure material availability in line with production requirements.
* Maintain safety stock levels, control costs, and ensure compliance with agreed budgets.
* Ensure data integrity and accuracy within the ERP system (D365), using the system effectively rather than relying on manual workarounds.
* Monitor and report on supplier performance, supporting corrective actions where required.
* Manage purchase orders, lead times, and delivery schedules to maintain operational continuity.
* Act as the primary interface between suppliers and internal quality engineering teams, facilitating the resolution of supplier quality concerns.
* Support supplier development and improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with company requirements.
* Take a hands-on role initially, transitioning into a management role as the division grows.
* In the medium term, lead and develop a small team of 2–3 buyers.
* Promote a culture of system discipline, continuous improvement, and accountability within the purchasing team.
The Successful Purchasing Manager:
* Background in purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
* Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (D365 preferred), with a disciplined, system-driven approach.
* Ability to read engineering drawings, interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs), and understand technical specifications.
* Proven track record of ensuring ERP data integrity and maximising system capability.
* Strong negotiation skills with the ability to challenge suppliers effectively.
* Hands-on operational experience, with the ability to transition into a leadership role.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
* The successful candidate will be highly system-driven, ensuring ERP data integrity, maintaining cost controls, and working collaboratively with suppliers and internal teams to support quality and operational performance.
