Job Description QC Microbiologist Quality Department Alton, Hampshire Laboratory based role: Early shift (Monday to Friday 05:45am-14:00pm) My client is a large manufacturing business, developing and producing Cosmetic, Nutritional, Pharma and Medical Device markets from three production sites and one logistics centre in the UK. About the role: Reporting to the QC Laboratory Supervisor, the main purpose of this post is to carry out microbiological testing of DI water, raw materials, bulk, and finished products, carry out environmental testing within the business, and release product that has passed QC testing. The post holder will also be required to support the QC Analytical Chemist in physically testing bulk and finished products as required. This post is laboratory-based and requires strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Health and Safety Regulations. Record keeping is required in laboratory books, master documentation, and computer databases; accuracy and attention to detail are always paramount to this role Key Duties and Responsibilities • Conduct microbiological testing of DI water, raw materials, bulk, and finished products in compliance with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures and Laboratory Methods • Carry out environmental testing in compliance with appropriate Standard Operating • Release raw materials, bulks, and finished goods from quarantine after testing and in compliance with the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures and Laboratory Methods • Participate in the validation of cleaning procedures and other methods as required • Conduct physical testing of bulk and finished products in compliance with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures and Laboratory Methods • Ensure all samples tested are controlled and retained in accordance with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures • Raise non-conformances for any raw materials, bulks, and finished goods that do not meet specifications in accordance with SOP • Assist in the control and maintenance of all laboratory standards in accordance with the relevant SOP or customer\regulatory requirement • Be responsible for the maintenance of databases relevant to all tests performed • Assist in the resolution of technical and quality issues • Operate requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; record data; maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment • Prepare, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in testing. • Report any equipment failures to the QC Laboratory Supervisor for resolution • Maintain high standards of GLP and GMP at all times in the laboratory and other accountable areas. • Carry out any other reasonable duties at the request of the QC Laboratory Supervisor or the Quality Manager Formal Qualifications and Experience required: Degree in a science-based subject, ideally Biology or Microbiology Good understanding of microbiological testing techniques gained through practical experience Good understanding of environmental testing gained through practical experience Experience of validation of test methods, cleaning procedures, and production processes Experience of physical and chemical testing techniques Experience of working within a GLP and GMP environment Person Specification: Ability to work individually or as an interchangeable member of a small team Ability to organise workload and work proactively on own initiative Accurate with good attention to detail Flexibility – ability to react and respond positively to changes in priority and workload Ability to use computerised information systems to input, retrieve and update all relevant data Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft PowerPoint - moderate understanding is essential
