You'll have the opportunity to help pupils develop their communication, confidence, independence, life skills and engagement with the world around them. The Role As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for creating an engaging, inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables pupils with additional needs to make meaningful progress. Your responsibilities may include: Planning and delivering creative, differentiated and accessible lessons Adapting the curriculum around pupils' individual abilities and EHCP outcomes Teaching pupils on a 1:1, small-group and whole-class basis Supporting pupils with a wide range of learning and communication needs Creating engaging learning opportunities incorporating sensory and practical activities Developing pupils' communication, independence, social skills and life skills Monitoring, assessing and recording individual pupil progress Developing positive and consistent approaches to behaviour Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviours that may challenge Working closely with SEN Teaching Assistants and LSAs to ensure effective classroom support Collaborating with therapists, families and other professionals Contributing to EHCP reviews, reports and wider multidisciplinary meetings where required Creating a safe, nurturing and positive classroom environment Maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding and pupil welfareDepending on the needs of the school, some pupils may require support with physical disabilities, medical needs, feeding, mobility or personal care, with appropriate training and support provided. What We're Looking For We are looking for teachers who genuinely want to work within Special Educational Needs education and understand that every pupil's progress and achievements will look different. The ideal candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification Have previous teaching experience within an SEN, specialist or mainstream environment Have experience or a strong understanding of ASD, SLD, PMLD, MLD or complex needs Be confident differentiating lessons to meet individual learning levels Have excellent classroom and behaviour management skills Be patient, resilient, creative and adaptable Have strong communication and interpersonal skills Be comfortable leading and directing classroom support staff Understand the importance of safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare Be passionate about helping children and young people achieve their individual potentialPrevious SEN teaching experience is highly desirable; however, we are also interested in speaking with qualified mainstream teachers looking to transition into specialist education. Why SEN Teaching? Working within an SEN school gives you the opportunity to celebrate achievements that can have a profound impact on a young person's life. For one pupil, progress might mean completing an academic task independently. For another, it could be communicating a choice, developing a new life skill, regulating their emotions, engaging with a sensory activity or becoming more independent with their daily routines. You'll work alongside dedicated support staff and other professionals to provide each pupil with an education tailored around their individual needs, abilities and aspirations. Opportunities are available across: Long-Term | Temporary | Temporary-to-Permanent | Full-Time As an agency worker, you are paid for the days you work and will therefore not paid during school holidays.
