Main Purpose:
The Project Quality Control Engineer will conduct inspections as required and carry out specific tasks on behalf of the quality team.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage with customers to understand their quality assurance, quality control, and inspection requirements.
Review and approve supplier quality arrangements to meet project specifications, including customer approval of manufacturing documents such as Quality Control Plans (QCPs), weld schedules, and NDT procedures.
Participate in supply chain kick-off meetings to ensure all parties understand the quality requirements.
Assign and manage inspection tasks for Inspectors.
Coordinate and perform inspection activities, collaborating with Customer Inspection personnel as necessary.
Conduct risk assessments before inspections.
Inspect equipment to verify compliance with quality standards.
Witness tasks such as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and functional testing.
Review and approve supporting documentation throughout the contract, including NDT reports, weld schedules, and EC&I test records.
Provide timely reports on inspection activities.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of Life Time Records (data dossiers) throughout the project.
Authorise the final release of procured items.
Advise on Quality Control and Inspection matters within projects, identifying risks and issues.
Attend project meetings, contract reviews, and handover sessions.
Prepare quality plans and project documentation, including drafting project-specific procedures and local work instructions, with due consideration for health, safety, and environmental factors.
Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to confirm quality and specification requirements are clearly understood.
Ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies at all times.
Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of the nuclear industry.
Thorough understanding of relevant regulations and legislation.
Familiarity with customer quality requirements.
Proficient in applying ISO 9001 standards.
Good understanding of manufacturing techniques and processes.
Experience:
Completed a manufacturing apprenticeship supported by EITB NVQs.
Experience in manufacturing, assembling, and testing turnkey specialist assemblies.
Proven ability to develop and implement Quality Control Plans and Inspection & Test Plans.
Preferably experience in a similar role within the nuclear or other highly regulated industries, with expertise in:
Fabrication and welding techniques.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods.
Mechanical inspection.
Assembly and testing processes.
Reviewing material certification.
Additional Information:
Weld inspection qualification – CSWIP 3.2 / 3.1 or PCL Level 2 (WI), with capability to review weld schedules and align them with relevant weld procedures.
Experience in Quality Control Plans and Inspection & Test Plans for welded and machined components.
Proven track record in project environments, managing suppliers and related documentation.
Ideally qualified to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
NDT qualification(s) is advantageous.
Auditor training is desirable.
