Job Description

Quality Engineer - Automotive Manufacturing Northampton | £45,000 | Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm Are you a quality-focused engineer who takes pride in maintaining high standards and driving continuous improvement? We're looking for a Quality Engineer to join a leading automotive manufacturer based in Northampton. You'll play a key role in ensuring that products and processes consistently meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards - supporting both day-to-day quality control and long-term improvement initiatives. What you'll be doing: Monitor and analyse quality performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Conduct internal audits and support customer audits, ensuring any nonconformities are resolved promptly. Assist with third-party certification audits (ISO9001, IATF 16949, ISO14001). Lead structured problem-solving activities using 8D, 5 Whys, DMAIC, and FMEA methodologies. Manage document control for all quality-related specifications, standards, and procedures. Prepare and submit customer quality documentation - including FAIRs, ISIRs, PPAPs, and APQP reports. Oversee product verification and approval activities, ensuring accurate measurement data (including CMM). Handle customer returns, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Support Continuous Improvement projects and quality culture initiatives across the site. Provide cover for Goods In/Out checks, production inspections, and line audits when required.What we're looking for: Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience. ISO9001 / IATF16949 Internal Auditor qualification. Experience working within automotive or high-precision manufacturing environments. Strong understanding of ISO9001, IATF16949, and associated quality systems. Skilled in quality tools and methodologies (8D, Lean, 5 Whys, Six Sigma, PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, MSA). Confident communicator with excellent attention to detail and IT proficiency.
