Description
As the Quality Engineer you will be responsible -
· Support and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001, customer requirements, approved procedures, specifications, drawings, and relevant standards.
· Monitor product quality throughout machining, welding, electropolishing, finishing, and inspection activities, promoting a right-first-time culture across all departments.
· Identify quality risks, process issues, and improvement opportunities, implementing preventative measures to reduce defects, waste, rework, and customer complaints.
· Investigate internal, external, welding, machining, surface finish, supplier, and process-related non-conformances using structured root cause analysis techniques.
· Develop, implement, verify, and monitor corrective and preventative actions (CAPA), ensuring actions are effective and closed out in a timely manner.
· Maintain accurate records relating to non-conformances, quality issues, inspection data, process records, audit findings, and corrective actions.
· Work closely with the Machine Shop Manager, Welding Manager, Production Teams, Inspection Department, suppliers, and other key stakeholders to improve manufacturing quality and resolve quality concerns.
· Support process validation, first article inspections, production approvals, capability studies, inspection planning, manufacturing improvement activities, and the implementation of effective process controls.
· Review production data, inspection reports, supplier quality data, welding documentation, certification records, and quality trends to identify performance issues and improvement opportunities.
· Support welding quality compliance, weld defect reduction initiatives, welder qualification records, and competency programmes where required.
· Support CNC machining quality by improving dimensional accuracy, inspection methods, measurement techniques, and process capability.
· Monitor electropolishing and surface finishing quality, investigating surface defects and supporting improvements in consistency, throughput, and process control.
· Support the Inspection Department in maintaining effective inspection activities, inspection plans, quality control documentation, calibration control, and dimensional inspection where required.
· Participate in internal, customer, supplier, external, and certification body audits, supporting the closure of audit findings and improvement actions.
· Assist in monitoring supplier performance, investigating supplier quality issues, and working with suppliers to implement corrective actions and improve quality performance.
· Lead and support continuous improvement projects, analysing KPIs and quality trends to improve quality, reduce costs associated with poor quality, and enhance customer satisfaction.
· Promote Lean Manufacturing, structured problem-solving, and continuous improvement methodologies throughout the business.
· Comply with all company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures, participating in risk assessments, reporting hazards and incidents, and promoting safe working practices.
· Support the company's environmental and sustainability objectives as part of day-to-day quality and operational improvement activities.
Profile
A successful Quality Engineer should have:
HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related discipline.
ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification or willingness to obtain.
Quality-related qualification (desirable).
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma qualification (desirable).
IOSH Working Safely or equivalent (desirable).
Job Offer
Salary between £40,000 and £50,000, dependent on the level of experience.
26 days holiday plus bank holidays.
5% pension contribution.
Bonus scheme.
