Quantity Surveyor – Main Contractor – Hertfordshire
New Build & Refurbishment (50/50) | Project Values £1m–£10m
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join a respected and successful main contractor with a strong pipeline of work. This role is ideal for someone looking to progress their commercial career within a stable contractor delivering high‑quality construction projects.
The company delivers a balanced mix of new‑build and refurbishment schemes (50/50 split) across commercial buildings, education, healthcare, heritage, leisure, community facilities, residential developments, fit‑outs and complex refurbishments. Their General Contracting division typically undertakes projects between £1m and £10m.
You will join a strong, solid team of Quantity Surveyors in St Albans, Hertfordshire
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of construction projects from pre‑contract through to final account. Duties include cost management, procurement, subcontractor packages, valuations, variations, change control, cost reporting, cashflow forecasting, commercial risk management, contract administration (JCT/NEC) and supporting project delivery teams with commercial and contractual advice. You will ensure projects meet financial targets, contractual obligations and client expectations.
About You
  * Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a UK main contractor
  * Confident managing projects independently from a commercial perspective
  * Successful candidates will have experience working on general contracting schemes of a similar size (£1m–£10m)
