Quantity Surveyor – Groundworks / Tarmacking
Location: Chartley, Staffordshire (office-based 3–4 days per week)
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + package
Employment: Full-time, permanent
The Company
A growing groundworks and surfacing subcontractor is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of multiple live projects and oversee a small estimating team. The business delivers projects across a variety of sectors — from sports & leisure to commercial, education, and car parks — typically valued up to £1.5m. With continued year-on-year growth and a young, motivated team, this is an excellent time to join and help shape the next stage of development.
The Role
You’ll lead the commercial function and manage two junior estimators, ensuring projects are delivered with strong financial control, accurate reporting, and clear communication between site and client.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee all commercial aspects of live projects, including valuations, CVRs, variations, and final accounts.
* Support and mentor two Junior Estimators, reviewing tenders and cost breakdowns.
* Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and the delivery team to ensure cost alignment.
* Prepare monthly reports, forecasts, and commercial summaries for directors.
* Assist with procurement strategy and value engineering where required.
* Ensure compliance with contract terms and commercial procedures.
About You:
* Minimum 5–7 years’ experience as a QS in groundworks, tarmacking, or civil engineering.
* Confident managing commercial processes and mentoring junior staff.
* Strong negotiation and analytical skills with solid understanding of NEC/JCT.
* Detail-driven, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced SME environment.
* Full UK driving licence requiredBefore You Apply
