Job Description: Quantity Surveyor
Overview
My client are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join their team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in quantity surveying, and familiarity with construction processes associated with fire protection, cladding, internals, externals, and other key areas. As a valued member of our team, you’ll play a critical role in cost management while working collaboratively to ensure successful project delivery for our main contractors, principal contractors, and clients.
Responsibilities
* Conduct accurate cost estimates and assessments for construction projects, including internals, externals, cladding, and fire protection.
* Prepare bills of quantities, contracts, tender documents, and other project documentation aligned with organizational practices.
* Manage budgets and monitor ongoing costs to ensure delivery within financial parameters, highlighting areas of risk and opportunity.
* Evaluate ongoing works, ensuring deadlines, quality, and cost targets are being consistently achieved.
* Collaborate with main contractors, principal contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure clarity and alignment on all cost-related matters.
* Lead all change management processes, including the valuation of variations, ensuring these are reported and resolved efficiently.
* Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best pricing, terms, and quality for materials and services.
* Conduct interim and final valuations, producing robust reports and evidence of progress.
* Maintain key project documentation, ensuring clarity, transparency, and accessibility across teams.
* Proactively contribute towards continual improvement in our approach to cost management and project delivery.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a similar discipline.
* Proven experience in quantity surveying within the construction sector.
* Knowledge of cost structures, contracts, and processes associated with Fire Protection, Cladding, Internals, Externals, and related project areas.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills for vendor and client interactions.
* Proficiency in industry-standard cost estimating software/tools.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment.
* Highly analytical with robust problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Desirable:
* Experience working on projects with both main contractors and principal contractors.
* Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., RICS or CIOB).
* Knowledge of sustainability practices or technologies in construction.
Day-to-Day
* Begin the day by reviewing and updating financial tracking sheets for active projects.
* Join team and contractor meetings to discuss project milestones, timelines, and budget issues.
* Prepare take-offs, bills of quantities, and other documentation for upcoming tenders.
* Conduct on-site inspections to evaluate ongoing work quality and adherence to financial forecasts.
* Host a midday workshop with team members to discuss innovative methods for improving project cost efficiencies.
* Follow up on supplier or contractor queries, resolving payment certifications, or clarifying details.
* Prepare and submit progress reports to stakeholders while flagging cost-related observations or risks.
* End the day with a wrap-up on key deadlines and preparations for the following day
