Job Description

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor Location: Salford or Dunfermline About Langfields Langfields is a leading UK manufacturer of high-integrity products for the most demanding process industries — including nuclear, chemical, clean energy, defence and pharmaceuticals. Based in Salford and Dunfermline, we deliver precision engineering, advanced manufacturing, mechanical design, weld overlay, site installation and fabrication of exotic and high-spec materials. At Langfields we value high performance, ownership, “right first time” quality, servant leadership and innovation. Every employee’s ideas matter — not just seniority. The Role We are seeking a motivated Quantity Surveyor who will help drive project profitability through accurate cost control, contract management, forecasting and commercial oversight. You will support the Salford or Dunfermline facilities, working closely with Project Managers and the Finance team. Some travel will be required to support Site Services. Key Responsibilities As a Quantity Surveyor Analyst at Langfields, your duties will include: * Monitoring and maintaining project committed costs via Purchase Orders; ensuring accuracy of cost commitments. * Preparing quarterly budgets and updates, in collaboration with Business Stream leads. * Administering contracts, handling variations (Change Variation Notifications / Orders) and ensuring timely agreement to protect project margins. * Submitting required contract notifications in compliance with contract terms. * Conducting cost to complete (CtoC) analyses ahead of month-end, liaising with Project Managers to forecast out-turns. * Preparing Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules at month end and supporting business leads in their review. * Educating/explaining WIP impacts and financial metrics to project teams. * Managing the order book and performing reforecasting for the remainder of the financial year. * Holding responsibility for indirect costs of sales and overheads, ensuring these are accounted for accurately. * Preparing and submitting Applications for Payment under contract terms. * Supporting the finance team and Project Managers to ensure invoices are issued on time and assisting with debt collection as necessary. * Carrying out post-project commercial reviews to capture lessons learnt and improve future project forecasting and delivery. * Ensuring projects are formally closed in company systems once complete. * Assisting Site Services and Projects in raising POs for materials, equipment, consumables, accommodation etc., seeking cost-effective procurement to maximise margins. * Complying with Langfields’ Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental policies and ensuring controls are maintained and improved. What We’re Looking For * Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Surveyor or in a commercial cost / contract control role, preferably within fabrication, manufacturing, construction or heavy engineering. * Strong understanding of contract administration, variation/claim management and applications for payment. * Confident with financial forecasting, cost to complete, WIP, order book and budget reporting. * Excellent communication skills; ability to present commercial data and financial impacts clearly to non-finance/project teams. * Good negotiation skills, especially in procurement / raising POs with a margin focus. * Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines. * Proficiency with Excel and financial systems; knowledge or willingness to learn internal ERP / project cost systems. * Ability to travel between facilities and support site-based activities as needed. Why Langfields? * Opportunity to work in a high-quality, technically challenging environment with cutting-edge materials and projects. * Be part of a progressive culture that values ideas, accountability, and innovation. * Role offers cross-functional exposure—finance, commercial, project management—and potential for growth. * Your work will be meaningful: ensuring quality, safety, and delivering value in industries that matter.
