Senior Quantity Surveyor (M&E / FRA Works)
Salary: £70–£80k + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
Location: Basildon
About the Role
We are seeking a commercially astute, senior-level professional with a strong background in M&E contracting and FRA works to lead and grow our Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire division. This is a unique opportunity to run your own division within an established £30M+ turnover group, shaping strategy, driving growth, and delivering profitable, high-quality projects.
You’ll be both hands-on in commercial management and strategic in business direction—overseeing financials, client relationships, procurement, and contract delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead commercial and financial management of M&E and FRA projects from tender to final account.
* Develop and grow the division, identifying new opportunities and strengthening key client relationships.
* Oversee cost estimation, tender submissions, and contract negotiations.
* Create and manage procurement schedules, ensuring cost-effective buying and subcontractor compliance.
* Monitor and report on budgets, cash flow, and profitability.
* Manage variations, change orders, and contract instructions.
* Support project teams with commercial guidance while ensuring operational efficiency.
* Conduct take-offs, review technical specifications, and ensure compliance with FRA requirements.
* Negotiate and agree subcontractor and supplier accounts.
* Lead continuous improvement in commercial processes and risk management.
Experience & Skills Required
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in M&E contracting with exposure to FRA works.
* Proven background as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior QS, or Commercial manager.
* Strong understanding of electrical and/or mechanical installations in commercial, healthcare, and industrial sectors.
* Experience with contract law, risk management, and cost control.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar (preferred, not essential).
