Rail Surveyor
Birmingham / Manchester / Liverpool
£30,000 – £38,000 (plus shift allowance/overtime + Company Van)
We are working with a leading surveying firm that is expanding its rail division and looking to add a Rail Surveyor with solid experience in delivering high-quality rail surveys. If you have a track record on rail infrastructure, this could be the opportunity for you.
The Role:
This is a field-based role focused on delivering small to medium-scale rail survey projects across the North Midlands and North West, primarily between Birmingham Liverpool and Manchester.
The successful candidate will work on a wide range of survey types, including plain line, S&C, gauging, and OLE height and stagger surveys. The role is 98% night shift work (Monday to Thursday), with weekend work also required on occasion.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carrying out topographic and track-based rail surveys using GNSS, Total Stations, and TMDs
* Planning and executing control networks and traversing
* Delivering fence-to-fence boundary surveys, S&C and gauging surveys
* Office-based processing of survey data into CAD drawings and point cloud registration
* Ensuring equipment maintenance, QA/QC compliance, and adherence to health and safety protocols
What We’re Looking For:
* Minimum 2 years' experience in land and rail surveying
* Strong understanding of GNSS surveys, control networks, traversing, and levelling
* Proficient in AutoCAD and point cloud processing
* PTS and COSS certification essential
* Experience using TMDs and laser scanning equipment is desirable
* Full UK driving licence
* Flexible, proactive and able to work night shifts consistently
