Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday On-Call Requirement: 1 in 3 weeks, including weekends and bank holidays (with a day in lieu provided for any bank holidays worked) Location: Based in the Lyneham area, with daily travel to sites across Bristol, Warminster, Corsham, and Gloucester Salary: £34,000 per annum Overview We are currently recruiting for a qualified and experienced Reactive Plumbing Operative to join a dedicated team responsible for delivering maintenance services to Ministry of Defence (MOD) properties across the South West. This is a permanent, full-time role ideally suited to someone who thrives in a mobile, field-based environment and takes pride in providing high-quality, customer-focused plumbing solutions. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting essential infrastructure, carrying out a wide range of reactive plumbing repairs and installations in occupied and void domestic properties, ensuring the highest levels of service delivery to military personnel and their families. Key Responsibilities Attend and complete reactive maintenance works and repairs in a timely and professional manner, ensuring a ‘Right First Time’ approach. Undertake general plumbing repairs including, but not limited to: pipework repairs, tap replacements, unblocking drains, toilet and sink installations, leak detection, and cylinder or tank maintenance. Carry out fault-finding, system inspections, and minor installations as required across MOD estate housing stock. Liaise with residents, colleagues, and contractors in a polite, helpful, and efficient manner to deliver outstanding customer service at all times. Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and internal procedures, including the safe use of tools, PPE, and mobile devices. Accurately complete job records using handheld digital devices and paperwork where necessary, ensuring all documentation is submitted promptly. Attend toolbox talks, mandatory training sessions, and team briefings as required. Report any identified risks or property condition issues to supervisors or line managers in a timely manner. Act as a positive ambassador for the organisation, promoting professionalism and quality workmanship on all sites. Support the development of apprentices and junior operatives by sharing technical knowledge and promoting safe working practices. Essential: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing (or equivalent recognised qualification). Full, valid UK driving licence. Proven experience working in domestic plumbing maintenance, preferably in occupied residential properties. Good knowledge of water systems, hot and cold water supply, and basic fault diagnostics. Strong problem-solving ability with a practical, hands-on approach to tasks. High standards of workmanship with a strong focus on customer satisfaction. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a wider team. Strong awareness of health and safety legislation and best practice. Desirable: Experience of working on MOD estates or within the public sector. Familiarity with digital job management systems or handheld PDAs. Basic understanding of legionella compliance and domestic water hygiene procedures.
