Referral & Intake Worker - Leicester Location: Leicester Job Type: Part Time Hours: Tuesday to Friday 9AM to 2PM hours per week Salary: £14,768 About the Role A specialist women's support service is seeking a Referral & Intake Worker to join their Leicester team. The role focuses on supporting women affected by domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based abuse, and related safeguarding concerns. As the first point of contact for many service users, you will provide compassionate, professional, and culturally sensitive support assessing risk, coordinating referrals, and helping women access safety and essential services. Key Responsibilities Referral, Intake & Assessment Act as the initial point of contact for women seeking refuge or support. Complete comprehensive risk assessments using evidence-based tools. Carry out needs assessments and develop support plans for high-risk victims. Prioritise urgent cases and provide short to medium-term crisis intervention. Ensure safeguarding concerns are promptly escalated to appropriate agencies. Case Management Manage a caseload of women experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, or honour-based violence. Support service users in rebuilding confidence, independence, and safety. Provide advice on available services, referral pathways, and statutory processes. Maintain professional boundaries while offering emotional and practical support. Cultural & Language Support Provide culturally sensitive support to women from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. Communicate effectively with service users, including those with limited English. Ability to speak at least one BME language (e.g., Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Pushtu, Somali, or African languages). Volunteer Coordination Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers assisting with helpline and related support functions. Provide ongoing guidance and cultural awareness support for volunteer teams. Data, Reporting & Administration Maintain accurate records, case notes, and risk assessments. Collect and submit statistical data for monitoring and evaluation. Prepare reports for management when required. Ensure GDPR and data protection standards are followed. Complete general administrative tasks including typing, filing, and documentation. Partnership Working Build strong working relationships with local agencies, statutory services, and community partners. Attend staff meetings, case reviews, multi-agency meetings and training sessions. Support positive collaboration across the wider service. Safety, Security & Compliance Adhere to health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality, and organisational policies. Report incidents, concerns, accidents and follow established procedures. Support the safe running of the premises including security systems and housekeeping standards. Person Specification Essential Minimum 2 years' experience in domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence, or related safeguarding services. Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety plans, and crisis intervention. Strong understanding of referral processes and statutory responsibilities. Excellent communication, listening, and telephone skills. Ability to speak at least one BME language. Strong organisational skills with ability to manage caseloads independently. Computer literate - able to use Word, databases, and input accurate data. Empathetic, non-judgmental, professional and resilient. Commitment to equality, diversity, and empowering vulnerable women. Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive situations. Enhanced DBS check (required).Desirable NVQ or relevant professional qualification. Experience supervising volunteers or students. Knowledge of immigration issues, "no recourse to public funds", and trafficking. Full driving licence and access to a car
