Abatec are proud to be partnering with a leading infrastructure and civil engineering contractor, offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor. This is a regional role based from their Bristol office, supporting high-value highways schemes across the South West.
Our client operates with a turnover of £200m and specialises in major rail and highways schemes including smart motorways, structures, active travel routes, transport hubs, and car park developments. As Managing QS, you will take commercial ownership of flagship projects such as a £90m bypass, £20m bridge replacement, and a £20m design and build road scheme, as well as a number of local authority frameworks.
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will:
* Lead commercial strategy and financial performance across multiple large-scale projects.
* Ensure robust contract administration, change control and risk/opportunity management.
* Deliver compliant procurement and engage effectively with supply chain partners.
* Conduct audits, cost reviews, and prepare monthly progress and financial reports
* Oversee and develop a team of 4–7 Quantity Surveyors, including performance management.
* Maintain accurate and updated cost plans and forecasts aligned with project milestones.
* Build strong relationships with site teams, clients, and internal stakeholders.
* Support a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and contractual awareness.
Our client requires a Managing Quantity Surveyor with:
* Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying role managing major civil engineering schemes.
* Excellent understanding of cost control, contract administration and commercial processes.
* Strong leadership and team development skills.
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or equivalent.
* Professional membership (RICS/CICES) – chartered or working towards (desirable).
* Skilled in cost management tools and proficient in IT systems.
* Knowledge of Lean principles (desirable).
