Job Description

Rent Arrears Officer Shrewsbury | Hybrid Working – 2 Days Office / 3 Days Home £28,000 – £30,000 per annum Full-Time/Mon-Fri/37 hours Are you passionate about supporting communities and making a real difference in people’s lives? We’re working with a well-regarded Housing Association in Shrewsbury who are looking for a dedicated Income Officer to join their friendly and supportive team. The Role: As an Income Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting residents to sustain their tenancies by managing rent accounts, preventing arrears, and providing advice around benefits and money management. You'll be a crucial part of ensuring the financial health of the organisation while promoting tenant wellbeing. Key Responsibilities: * Manage a caseload of rent accounts, ensuring timely payments and addressing arrears * Take early intervention steps to prevent debt escalation and potential evictions * Liaise with residents, support agencies, and internal teams to find sustainable solutions * Advise tenants on welfare benefits, Universal Credit, and available financial support * Prepare case files for legal action where necessary and attend court when required What We’re Looking For: * Previous experience in income recovery or rent arrears management (ideally in social housing) * Strong knowledge of housing law, welfare benefits, and Universal Credit * Excellent communication and negotiation skills * Confident using housing management systems and MS Office * Empathetic, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable tenants What’s on Offer: * Permanent contract with a stable and reputable employer * Hybrid working – 2 days in the Shrewsbury office, 3 days from home * Competitive salary and generous holiday entitlement * Ongoing professional development and support * A collaborative team culture that truly values your contribution Ready to apply?
