This newly created role sits across both the Business Development and Commercial teams, playing a vital part in identifying opportunities, tracking policy, and providing research insights that help shape new services and funding bids. The Role
As Research Coordinator, you will support the development of new services, products and opportunities by gathering and analysing intelligence across the energy, sustainability and housing sectors. You’ll create insight reports, identify funding streams, monitor policy changes and provide research support for proposals and business cases.
You’ll work across a wide variety of potential opportunities, helping to build a pipeline of concepts and ensuring the organisation remains agile and well-informed in a rapidly evolving sector.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Intelligence Gathering
*
Monitor relevant national and regional policies related to energy, climate, housing and regulation.
*
Track market developments, competitor activity, business trends and emerging technologies.
*
Research CSR/ESG strategies, sustainability reporting and social value commitments to identify potential funding opportunities.
*
Analyse business plans and strategies of key stakeholders (e.g., utilities, housing providers, charities, public sector).
*
Complete SWOT and competitor analyses to support business cases and market positioning.
*
Produce briefing notes and insight reports for internal teams.
Opportunity Scoping
*
Support in identifying and qualifying new funding or contract opportunities.
*
Contribute to early-stage concepts for new services, products or growth areas.
*
Map timelines, funding priorities and strategic objectives of prospective funders or partners.
Collaboration & Communication
*
Maintain a log of insights, research activity and stakeholder engagement.
*
Participate in internal scoping sessions and contribute to research prioritisation.
*
Present findings through written reports, presentations or dashboards.
*
Help develop stakeholder engagement materials and bid content using research insights.
Person Specification
Essential
*
Strong research and analytical skills; able to present complex information clearly.
*
Experience in research, business development, strategy or policy analysis.
*
Understanding of UK policy frameworks related to sustainability, energy or social impact.
*
Excellent written communication and confident using MS Office or research tools.
*
Ability to prioritise across multiple projects with a proactive, collaborative approach.
*
Passion for social impact and supporting vulnerable households.
Desirable
*
Experience in commercial, energy, policy or regulatory environments.
*
Knowledge of public sector procurement or funding streams.
*
Experience in social enterprises or values-led organisations.
*
Awareness of ESG frameworks and CSR trends.

Experience producing market reviews, SWOT analyses or competitor insights.
Initial Objectives

Produce a regularly updated pipeline of opportunities and 10–15 detailed research insights per year.

Maintain an active research log covering policy, funding and market developments.

Support around 10 new business cases, proposals or bids annually.

Identify at least 10 new strategic prospect organisations per year.
