Residential Support Worker – Children’s Residential Home Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum Hours: Shift pattern including nights, weekends, and bank holidays About the Company This established children’s residential home provides a therapeutic and nurturing environment for young people aged 12–17 with emotional and behavioural difficulties. The home is committed to promoting positive development, safety, and wellbeing through a compassionate, values-driven approach. About the Role We are seeking a dedicated Residential Support Worker to provide high-quality day-to-day care for young people. You will support daily activities, education, and statutory meetings, while working as part of a caring team to ensure the home is maintained to high standards. The role includes safeguarding residents, assisting with domestic tasks, and contributing to a positive, therapeutic environment. Key Responsibilities * Support young people’s daily routines, education, therapy, and personal development. * Build positive, trusting relationships with young people to promote security and wellbeing. * Safeguard young people, respond to challenging behaviour, and promote positive outcomes. * Assist young people in developing social networks, hobbies, and educational/vocational attainment. * Implement care plans, risk assessments, and participate in statutory meetings as required. * Support the team with household duties, including cooking, cleaning, and maintaining a safe, homely environment. * Participate in group activities, trips, and holidays. * Observe and report on young people’s behaviour and progress, maintaining accurate records. * Follow health, safety, and safeguarding policies, and respond to emergencies appropriately. * Undertake sleep-in duties and be available for on-call cover when required. * Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers, and external professionals. * Support less experienced staff and contribute to their induction and professional development. Person Specification / Requirements Qualifications * Good standard of English (written and spoken) * NVQ Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People (desirable) * First Aid, Food Hygiene, or Health & Safety training (desirable) Experience * Experience supporting young people aged 12–17 with emotional or behavioural difficulties * Experience planning and coordinating activities * Experience with ASC, mental health, or complex needs (desirable) Skills & Attributes * Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills * Resilient, empathetic, and able to handle challenging behaviour * Flexible, person-centred, and committed to safeguarding * Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality * Driving licence for home transport (desirable)
