I am currently working in partnership with James Scott Associates, looking to recruit a lead residential surveyor to join their growing team.
James Scott Associates, a family-run, RICS-regulated surveying practice based in the picturesque setting of Stanley Park, Blackpool, is offering a unique opportunity for an experienced Residential Surveyor (MRICS or AssocRICS) to take ownership of its expanding residential service offering.
This is a career-defining role for someone ready to step up and lead. With a strong existing client base and growing demand for RICS Level 2 and Level 3 Home Surveys, this role is ideal for a technically strong surveyor with an interest in service development, team leadership, and business growth.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will have the autonomy to shape and grow a dedicated residential surveying arm within the practice. This includes delivering high-quality RICS Home Surveys (primarily Levels 2 and 3), developing operational processes, and, in time, supporting the recruitment and mentoring of additional residential surveyors.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with ambition, who wants to do more than just deliver surveys - someone who's ready to help build and lead a service line from the ground up, with the full backing of a well-established and supportive team.
Key responsibilities include:
Undertaking RICS Level 2 (HomeBuyer) and Level 3 (Building Survey) inspections and reports
Managing and growing the residential survey workload and client base
Leading on quality, consistency, and professional standards within residential services
Working alongside the Director on strategy and service development
Supporting the wider business with residential insight and technical inputCandidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be confident, detail-oriented, and commercially minded - with a strong understanding of building pathology and a passion for delivering trusted advice to residential clients.
Requirements:
MRICS or AssocRICS qualified
Proven experience conducting Level 2 and Level 3 Home Surveys
Excellent report writing and client communication skills
Strong knowledge of residential construction and common defects
A proactive, leadership-oriented mindset
