Job Description
We’re recruiting for a Sales Executive to join the commercial team of an established freight forwarding and logistics business based in Tilbury.
Our client has more than 40 years of experience within the freight and logistics industry, providing international transport solutions across sea, air, road and rail. With particular expertise in Far East ocean freight and customs clearance, they have built strong relationships with customers, carriers and overseas partners around the world.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced freight sales professional looking to join an established business where they can make a genuine impact on growth.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for developing new business across the freight forwarding market, identifying opportunities and converting them into long-term customer relationships.
The role will have a strong focus on multimodal imports, so a good understanding of import freight forwarding is essential. You’ll work closely with the existing sales and customer service teams, acting as an important link between bringing in new business and ensuring customers receive a smooth service.
The position will involve a combination of office-based work and meeting customers in the field, giving you the opportunity to build relationships and develop your own portfolio.
Candidates who already have an established network of business contacts or transferable customers will be particularly attractive, although this is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the freight forwarding sector
* Generate new customers through your own prospecting and leads provided by the wider business
* Develop business across FCL, LCL, airfreight and road freight
* Target both import and export opportunities, with a particular emphasis on imports
* Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers
* Work closely with the BDM and customer service teams to ensure a seamless handover of new business
* Prepare competitive and accurate freight quotations
* Ensure quotations include all appropriate terms, conditions and relevant charges
* Attend customer meetings and develop relationships through face-to-face contact
* Identify opportunities to increase revenue and expand existing customer accounts
* Keep up to date with developments and trends within the international freight market
About You
Ideally, you’ll have experience within a small to medium-sized forwarder and be confident developing business across multiple modes of transport.
You’ll bring:
* A proven background in freight sales and business development
* Strong knowledge of the international freight forwarding industry
* Good understanding of sea, air and road freight, particularly imports
* An established customer network or transferable business relationships would be a major advantage
Salary & Commission
The salary for this position is £30,000–£37,500, depending on experience.
There is also a competitive commission structure.
