Job Description

Salt Spray & Surface Treatment Technician 💷 Salary: £14.00 per hour 🕒 Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM (39 hours/week) 📍 Location: Wednesbury 📅 Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Purpose of the Role To carry out corrosion testing, electroplating evaluations, chemical analysis, and quality control inspections in accordance with internal procedures and international standards. The technician will ensure accurate, timely testing and reporting, supporting continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. Main Objectives Execute and document a wide range of surface treatment and corrosion tests. Maintain high standards of quality control and chemical testing accuracy. Ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards. Support innovation and process improvement across the laboratory. Key Responsibilities Conduct corrosion and environmental testing, including neutral salt spray (ISO 9227, ASTM B117) and cyclic corrosion tests. Perform electroplating thickness measurements, adhesion testing, and visual inspections. Carry out chemical testing of plating baths and surface treatment solutions using titration, pH, and conductivity methods. Support quality control processes by inspecting incoming and outgoing materials for coating integrity and conformance. Assist with paint and varnish testing, including resistance to dry heat and mechanical adhesion. Provide backup support for metallographic sample preparation and hardness testing. Maintain accurate records in the laboratory information management system (LIMS). Liaise with customers to provide technical advice and ensure satisfaction. Participate in internal audits and contribute to maintaining ISO/IEC 17025 compliance. Identify risks and opportunities for improvement in lab operations. Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with GDPR and data protection regulations. Knowledge and Skills Required HNC or equivalent in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field. Hands-on experience with corrosion testing, electroplating, and chemical analysis. Familiarity with standards such as ISO 9227, ASTM B117, and ISO 2064. Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Proficient in maintaining accurate technical records and reports.
