Job Description

We are seeking a committed, organised and compassionate School Attendance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school, working closely with pupils, parents/carers, staff and external agencies. You will be responsible for monitoring and analysing attendance data, following up on absences and supporting families where attendance concerns arise. You will work proactively to identify barriers to regular school attendance and help develop effective strategies to improve outcomes for pupils. Key Responsibilities Monitor daily pupil attendance and punctuality. Follow up unexplained absences with parents and carers. Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records. Identify patterns of absence, lateness and persistent absence. Contact and meet with parents/carers to discuss attendance concerns and agree appropriate support. Work closely with pupils, pastoral staff, safeguarding teams and senior leaders to improve attendance. Prepare attendance reports and provide accurate data to relevant staff. Support the development and implementation of attendance improvement plans. Liaise with external agencies and professionals where appropriate. Conduct home visits where required and in line with school policy. Ensure attendance procedures comply with relevant legislation, school policies and safeguarding requirements. Promote the importance of regular attendance and punctuality throughout the school community. Person Specification The successful candidate will have: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of working with children, young people and families. Strong organisational and administrative skills. The ability to manage sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations professionally. Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records. Experience of using data to identify concerns and monitor progress. An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team. A commitment to improving outcomes and opportunities for children and young people. Experience of working in a school, education, pastoral, welfare or attendance-related role would be desirable
