Job Description
DCT Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced School Caretaker to work at a well-established school based in Wigan. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone reliable and proactive who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming school premises.
Location: Wigan, WN5
Pay: £14 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 15:30 – 18:30
Job Type: Part-Time, Temporary (with potential for ongoing work)
Enhanced DBS Required
As the school’s Caretaker, you will be responsible for the general upkeep, maintenance, and security of the building and grounds. Working in the late afternoon to early evening, you will support the school in ensuring that facilities are clean, safe, and well-managed at the end of each school day.
Main Duties Include:
Securing and locking up the school buildings
Carrying out basic repairs and maintenance (e.g., changing light bulbs, minor plumbing, fixing furniture)
Monitoring heating, lighting, and alarms to ensure they are working properly
Undertaking general cleaning tasks and ensuring outdoor areas are tidy
Assisting with moving furniture or setting up rooms as needed
Reporting any major issues or repairs to the facilities manager or school office
Requirements:
Proven experience in a similar caretaker or site maintenance role (preferably within a school or educational setting)
A valid Enhanced DBS check is essential (must be registered on the update service or willing to undergo a check)
Good level of physical fitness – some lifting/moving may be required
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Trustworthy, punctual, and able to take responsibility for site safety and security
Ideal Candidate Will Be:
Friendly and approachable, with good communication skills
Practical and hands-on, with basic DIY/maintenance knowledge
Someone who takes pride in keeping the school environment clean and well-maintained
Flexible and willing to adapt to the school’s needs
