Role Overview: The Pastoral Support Assistant will play a key role in supporting the emotional and social development of pupils alongside teaching and pastoral teams. This role involves working closely with individuals and small groups to provide guidance, encouragement, and practical support, helping students manage their behaviour, build positive relationships, and access the curriculum effectively. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs. Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies and personalised support plans. Monitor pupils’ emotional wellbeing and liaise with staff to address concerns promptly. Support pupils in developing social skills and coping strategies. Help maintain a safe and calm learning environment. Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, families, and external professionals. Assist with daily routines, transitions, and promoting positive attendance. Candidate Requirements: Experience or understanding of SEMH needs and SEN in a secondary education context is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, patience, and empathy. Ability to work flexibly and as part of a small team. Candidates must have a current DBS check for the child workforce or be registered with the DBS Update Service (or be willing to obtain one). A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people and enhancing their educational experience. Additional Information: This is a term-time only position, working Monday to Friday. The hourly rate is £13.75. The school offers a supportive and collaborative environment focused on the holistic development of its students.
