Science Instructor - Northampton Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire Start Date: September 2026 Contract Type: Full-Time | Permanent Preferred | Long-Term Supply or Fixed-Term Considered Pay Rate: £120-£190 per day, depending on experience and responsibilities Are you a Science graduate with a passion for your subject and an interest in developing a career in education? Would you enjoy sharing your enthusiasm for Science with young people and helping students build their knowledge, confidence, and practical skills? We are working with a supportive and forward-thinking secondary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint a passionate Science Instructor from September 2026. The school would ideally like to secure a permanent member of staff, although long-term supply and fixed-term options may be available for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity for a Science graduate or aspiring teacher to gain valuable classroom experience while working alongside an established and supportive Science department. You will play an important role in helping students across Key Stages 3 and 4 develop their understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The Role As a Science Instructor, you will be responsible for: Delivering engaging and well-structured Science lessons across KS3 and KS4 Teaching content across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics where appropriate Making scientific concepts accessible and engaging for students of different abilities Supporting lesson planning and adapting activities to meet individual learning needs Creating a positive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and participation Maintaining high expectations around behaviour, engagement, and achievement Supporting students during practical investigations and laboratory activities Encouraging students to develop their analytical, problem-solving, and scientific thinking skills Assessing understanding and providing constructive feedback to support progress Working collaboratively with teachers and members of the wider Science department Participating in departmental meetings, training, CPD, and wider school activities This Role Could Be Ideal If You Hold a degree in Science or a closely related subject Are considering a career in secondary teaching Have a particular interest in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a combination of the three Have experience working with young people through tutoring, education, coaching, mentoring, or youth work Are looking to gain meaningful classroom experience before completing teacher training Are considering routes such as PGCE, SCITT, or a QTS apprenticeship Enjoy explaining complex ideas in a simple and engaging way Are confident, enthusiastic, and keen to make a positive impact on students We Are Looking For Someone Who Has a Science-related degree such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Science, or a similar discipline Is confident communicating with students and able to establish positive relationships Can demonstrate strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Science Is organised, adaptable, and able to respond to different classroom situations Has strong behaviour management and classroom presence Works well alongside experienced teachers and support staff Is committed to safeguarding and creating a positive learning environment Has an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one What the Role Offers The opportunity to join a supportive Science department in a Northampton secondary school Permanent employment preferred, with long-term supply and fixed-term options also considered Competitive pay of £120-£190 per day, depending on experience and responsibilities Valuable hands-on classroom experience across Key Stages 3 and 4 Support from experienced teachers and school leadership Access to CPD, safeguarding, and professional development opportunities The opportunity to develop classroom management and teaching skills Potential progression into teacher training and future permanent teaching positions Ongoing support from a dedicated education recruitment consultant Build Your Teaching Career This is a fantastic opportunity for a Science graduate who wants to take their first steps into the classroom while making a genuine difference to students' education.
