Enthusiastic Science Teacher Required - Long-Term Role in Rochdale Pupil Referral Service (PRS)

Tradewind Recruitment is working closely with a committed Pupil Referral Service (PRS) in the Rochdale Borough to recruit an enthusiastic Science Teacher for a long-term role beginning this autumn term.
From September the PRU will be based on one site in Rochdale . The school provides education and support for pupils from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, many of whom have significant social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and have faced challenges in mainstream settings. The service is looking for someone with the drive and resilience to engage students who may be disaffected with learning and help them rediscover a love of science through hands-on, practical learning.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to teach Science across Key Stages 3 and 4, with a particular focus on delivering GCSE Science and alternative KS4 qualifications in a flexible, student-centred way. You'll bring science to life with practical, engaging lessons, helping students develop curiosity, confidence, and key scientific knowledge through real-world experiments and applied learning.
You will play a vital role in supporting some of Rochdale's most vulnerable learners, not only in their academic progress but in their social and emotional development, too.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, deliver and assess practical and engaging science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics to students in KS3 and KS4
Prepare students for GCSE Science and/or alternative science qualifications (e.g., Entry Level or BTEC-style qualifications)
Use hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations to build understanding and curiosity in learners with additional needs
Adapt lessons and resources to meet a wide range of learning needs, including students with SEMH, SEND and learning gaps
Create a positive, structured and trauma-informed learning environment that promotes respect, consistency and resilience
Collaborate with support staff, behaviour mentors, and the SENCO to provide tailored interventions and classroom support
Track progress, maintain accurate records and provide clear, constructive feedback to learners and their parents/carers
Contribute to the wider ethos of the PRS by promoting engagement, emotional wellbeing, and confidence in learningTo be successful in this PRS Science Teacher role, you will need:
QTS or QTLS status
Recent experience teaching Science to students aged 11-16, ideally in alternative provision, PRUs, or SEND/SEMH settings
Experience in delivering practical science in resource-limited or flexible learning environments
A strong understanding of GCSE Science and the ability to deliver differentiated, accessible lessons
Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills with a calm, empathetic approach
