We're seeking a dedicated Science Lab Technician to provide critical technical support to our dynamic Science Department in Blackburn. This role is a central part of our team, ensuring that our students and teaching staff have a safe, well-equipped, and efficient environment for all practical work.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Science Lab Technician, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks that keep our labs running smoothly. Your key duties will include:
Lab Preparation: Preparing and setting up apparatus, components, and chemical solutions for classroom demonstrations, practical lessons, and examinations.
Maintenance & Safety: Ensuring all equipment, chemicals, and materials are stored safely and securely. You will perform minor repairs, assist in the construction of apparatus, and be a key player in maintaining a safe working environment.
Stock Management: Taking charge of stock levels, ordering new supplies, and maintaining a detailed inventory. You will also assist with the annual audit of science equipment.
Health & Safety Compliance: Adhering to all health and safety procedures, conducting risk assessments for technical activities, and ensuring the safe disposal of residues and hazardous materials.
General Support: Assisting with general departmental tasks, including the maintenance of laboratories and preparation rooms, and providing support for out-of-school learning activities.
