Duties and Responsibilities: * Lead on the configuration, testing, and rollout of new (email address removed) database modules and system improvements. * Act as the main point of contact for all database-related queries, working closely with IT teams, internal users, and software support. * Streamline existing workflows and develop new tools to enhance functionality, efficiency, and user experience. * Support daily husbandry and welfare checks for breeding mice, including weaning and routine schedule 1 procedures. * Record and maintain accurate data and documentation in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Home Office regulations. * Promote the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) across all aspects of work. * Assist in general facility upkeep, equipment maintenance, and environmental monitoring. * Take part in weekend and bank holiday rotas as required. * Support the wider Biological Resources Unit team and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Essential skills and experience: * HNC or HND in Animal Technology or a Degree in a related subject (or equivalent relevant experience). * Experience working in an animal unit (particularly mouse breeding). * Experience using mouse databases to capture records. * Excellent organisational and time-management skills. * Ability to prioritise and carry out routine tasks and procedures with minimal supervision. * Excellent communication skills. * Ability to maintain accurate records. * Competent in the use of standard office software. * Thorough understanding of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. Desirable: * Current or previous holder of a Personal Licence under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. * Previous experience with database-driven applications. * Experience with HTML and XML. * Proven experience managing mouse breeding colony data. Why Apply? * Be part of a world-class cancer research institute making life-changing discoveries. * Join a collaborative, supportive team at the forefront of transgenic research. * Develop both your technical and scientific skills in a role that blends IT innovation with hands-on animal care. * Excellent training and professional development opportunities
