Role Overview
Our client is seeking an Ophthalmic Scrub Nurse to join their Ellesmere Port site on a full-time basis (approx. 40 hours over 4-5 days per week, including some weekends). Hours can be discussed at interview. This theatre-based role requires NMC registration and involves supporting patients throughout their surgical journey-from pre-operative assessment to intraoperative support and post-operative care. There may also be opportunities to support outpatient and diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities
Act as scrub nurse for ophthalmic procedures, ensuring sterile preparation of all equipment.
Support patients before, during, and after surgery.
Assist with pre-operative assessments and patient education.
Deliver post-operative care, including medication guidance and discharge support.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold infection control and safety standards.
Essential Requirements
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
Experience as a scrub nurse in ophthalmic theatre.
Strong knowledge of ophthalmic surgery and theatre protocols.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment (18-22 patients/day).
Excellent communication and patient-support skills.
Desirable Experience
Background in hospital eye services or private ophthalmic clinics.
Knowledge of key diagnostic tools (e.g., Biometry, OCT, Topography, Visual Fields).
Understanding of clinical governance and ophthalmic developments.
Experience mentoring junior staff.
Confident using clinical IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
