Job Description

Location: Gloucester, Gloucestershire Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR A creative and ambitious school in Gloucester is looking for a Second in Department for Art to help lead an inspirational and successful Art & Design faculty. This is an opportunity to be part of a school that places creativity and personal expression at the centre of learning. About the School The school is proud of its arts provision and encourages both academic and vocational pathways. Students enjoy experimenting with fine art, photography, mixed media, and digital arts. Facilities include specialist studios, an in-house gallery space, and access to professional equipment and software. Your Role * Deliver engaging and varied Art lessons across KS3–5 in your specialism (Painting, Printmaking, Photography, etc.) * Assist the Head of Department in curriculum innovation, assessment moderation, and resource development * Organise exhibitions, competitions, and visits to inspire artistic exploration * Work with ECTs and technicians to support high-quality teaching and learning * Encourage high standards of artistic critique, skill-building, and creative risk-taking Ideal Candidate * Qualified Art teacher with experience across the secondary phase * Able to combine technical teaching with conceptual and cultural awareness * Collaborative, enthusiastic, and eager to take on leadership responsibility * Comfortable with assessment frameworks at GCSE and A-Level Why Apply? * Work in a visually inspiring environment with committed and creative colleagues * Enjoy autonomy in your teaching and a department that values innovation * Be part of a school that champions the arts and offers clear leadership progression * Access a well-resourced department and engaged student body
