Job Description

A forward-thinking and supportive secondary school in Beaconsfield is seeking a motivated DT Teacher to take on the role of Second in Department from September 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for a current DT Teacher ready to step up or an experienced second in charge seeking a fresh, rewarding challenge. As Second in Department – DT Teacher, you will support the Head of DT in shaping curriculum delivery, raising standards, and mentoring staff. This role combines excellent classroom practice with strategic planning, providing the chance to make a real impact in a well-resourced and dynamic department. Key responsibilities as DT Teacher (Second in Department): * Teaching DT across KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 depending on specialism). * Leading curriculum development and innovative project design. * Supporting and mentoring other DT Teachers and technicians. * Ensuring excellent outcomes through effective assessment and moderation. * Promoting the subject through clubs, exhibitions, and external partnerships. * Coordinating health and safety standards across DT workshops. * Taking a proactive role in school CPD and leadership development. * Contributing to school improvement through evidence-based practice. Essential skills: * Degree in Design Technology or similar. * QTS and a proven track record of outstanding teaching. * A leadership mindset with the ability to inspire and support colleagues. * Clear commitment to student progress and curriculum innovation.
