Second in Physics – High-Achieving School with Exceptional Science Provision – Reading, Berkshire – September 2025 Start Location: Reading, Berkshire Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR2a Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Start Date: September 2025 An outstanding secondary school in Reading is seeking an experienced and committed Second in Physics to help lead their strong and expanding Science Department. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership position within a school where science is valued, resourced, and embedded across the curriculum. The SLT places science and staff wellbeing at the centre of school improvement. Physics Department The Physics team is collaborative, forward-thinking, and driven by a commitment to practical science and conceptual understanding. Students are taught Physics separately at KS4 and KS5 by subject specialists, with excellent results. The department has modern labs, interactive digital resources, and dedicated technician support. Your Role As Second in Physics, you’ll assist with curriculum development, monitoring and improving teaching standards, and mentoring junior staff or trainees. You’ll lead interventions, coordinate assessments, and play a key role in student stretch and challenge. You’ll also support enrichment activities such as physics competitions, Olympiads, or space/STEM projects.
