Job Description

About the Role** We are seeking a compassionate and adaptable Secondary Science Teacher to join our team, specialising in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role involves delivering engaging and differentiated lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to students aged 11–16, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to thrive academically and personally. **Key Responsibilities** * **Inclusive Lesson Planning & Delivery**: Develop and implement science lessons that are accessible and engaging for students with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. * **Differentiation & Personalisation**: Tailor teaching methods and materials to accommodate individual learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can access the curriculum effectively. * **Assessment & Feedback**: Monitor and assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support development and inform future planning. * **Individual Education Plans (IEPs)**: Collaborate with SENCOs and other professionals to create, implement, and review IEPs, setting personalised targets to optimise learning outcomes. * **Collaboration & Communication**: Work closely with teaching assistants, parents, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student development and well-being. * **Classroom Management**: Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, engagement, and safety. * **Professional Development**: Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in SEN education and science pedagogy. **Essential Qualifications & Experience**: * **Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)** or equivalent. * A **degree in a Science subject** (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) or a closely related field. * Experience teaching science at the secondary level, with a strong understanding of the national curriculum. * Experience working with students with SEN, particularly those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and SEMH needs. * Knowledge of SEN strategies and practices, including the development and implementation of IEPs. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. **Desirable Attributes**: * Additional qualifications or training in Special Educational Needs (e.g., Postgraduate Diploma in SEN). * Experience in preparing students for GCSE examinations. * Familiarity with therapeutic approaches integrated into the classroom setting. **What We Offer** * A supportive and inclusive school environment committed to the success of all students. * Opportunities for professional development and further training in SEN education. * Competitive salary and benefits package. * A collaborative team of educators dedicated to making a meaningful difference in students' lives.
