Office Secretary / PA to the Directors
SW London (2 mins from Clapham South - Northern Line)
Permanent | £40,000-£50,000 DoE | Start: November 2025
Hours: Negotiable (something like 08:00-16:00 or 08:30-16:30)
About the company
They're a small but mighty £10-13m turnover refurbishment and fit-out contractor (construction) with 15 years under their belt and a reputation for doing quality work the old-fashioned way - properly. Projects range from £70k to £3m, covering everything from smart offices to heritage refurbishments.
Family-run, friendly, and pack a punch for their size. No corporate fluff, no endless meetings - just busy people trying to get good work done.
The main two directors (that you would be supporting) are, to put it politely, everywhere at once. If you tried to track them on a map, your laptop would crash. They're brilliant at what they do - but between running sites, meeting clients, and fielding calls, they need someone who can help bring a bit of calm (and structure) to the chaos.
The Role
Let's be clear: this isn't one of those PA jobs where you're booking first-class flights to New York or arranging private dining at The Shard.
You'll be firing off emails to the director of a storage facility in Hounslow, chasing quotes, tidying up spreadsheets, and making sure the directors don't miss anything important while they're juggling a dozen projects.
Typical tasks might include:
·Managing the inbox when the directors are on the move (often)
·Producing reports, tenders and quotes
·Calling and emailing on behalf of the directors
·Answering the phone (when needed) and generally keeping the office running smoothly
·Keeping things organised, up to date, and vaguely sane
·You'll be the one who quietly makes everything work - the oil in the machine, the glue in the chaos, the person who says, I've already sorted that, before anyone even asks.
·Over time, this role will naturally grow into running the office day-to-day - but right now, they just need someone who can roll up their sleeves and get things done.
About You
You'll be the sort of person who takes pride in keeping things shipshape and enjoys being the one who holds it all together. You're organised, calm, practical, and you have a good sense of humour (essential when you're surrounded by builders, spreadsheets, and strong coffee).
You'll need to be:
·IT literate (Outlook, Word, Excel - no fancy stuff, just solid basics)
·Highly organised and proactive - the kind of person who spots problems before they happen
·A clear and friendly communicator
·Calm under pressure (bonus points if you've worked with construction people before - they're harmless, promise)
·Honest, reliable, and genuinely decent
This is a hands-on role in a small, hardworking team. One day you'll be emailing suppliers; the next, helping finalise a tender or coordinating deliveries. It's not glamorous, but it's busy, rewarding, and you'll make a real impact every single day.
Other titles that might fit: Office Secretary, PA, Office Administrator, Office Manager or simply Organiser-in-Chief..
