Job Description

I'm recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor who are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer / Section Engineer on a freelance basis to support the delivery of a major highways and infrastructure project. This role will focus specifically on the bridge and structures element of the scheme, taking responsibility for key engineering and coordination activities on site.

This is an excellent opportunity for a capable engineer who is immediately available or approaching the end of their current assignment and looking to join a well-respected contractor on a high-profile project.

Key Responsibilities

·Lead engineering delivery for bridge works and associated structural activities. 
·Coordinate site operations, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and H&S requirements. 
·Review drawings, ITPs, and method statements, providing technical support and buildability solutions. 
·Manage and support site engineers and subcontractors to maintain progress against programme. 
·Oversee setting out, temporary works interfaces, and technical assurance activities. 
·Liaise with the design team to resolve technical issues and drive efficiency. 
·Maintain accurate site records, QA documentation, and daily reporting.

Candidate Requirements

·Strong background in structures/bridge construction within highways or large infrastructure projects. 
·Degree-qualified or equivalent in Civil Engineering. 
·Solid understanding of RC structures, bridge builds, and temporary works processes. 
·Confident communicator able to coordinate effectively with site teams and subcontractors. 
·Proactive approach to problem-solving and maintaining progress on site. 
·Valid CSCS; SMSTS and TWC/TWS advantageous. 
·Prior freelance experience beneficial but not essential.
