Secured Loan Underwriter
Role Overview
An established specialist lender is looking for an underwriter to join its Secured Loans team. The successful candidate will manage allocated cases from application through to completion, ensuring all underwriting meets company policies, regulatory standards, and risk appetite. The role also involves maintaining strong relationships with brokers and third parties.
Key Responsibilities
* Enter and maintain borrower data accurately on the Fusion lending platform
* Assess secured loan applications against underwriting criteria, company policy, and FCA regulation
* Provide timely updates to brokers and proactively chase outstanding items
* Manage a personal pipeline of cases from inception to completion
* Build and maintain relationships with brokers, solicitors, and other partners
* Ensure underwriting decisions fall within the Group’s risk appetite
* Contribute to continuous improvement and uphold internal policies
Skills & Competencies
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* High attention to detail and organisation
* Team player with ability to work independently
* Confident under pressure and meeting deadlines
* Proficient in data entry and loan management systems
* Previous experience managing a caseload in a fast-paced environment
* A good understanding of the underwriting process
Knowledge & Qualifications
CeMAP qualification desirable but not essential
Industry-relevant qualifications are beneficial but not a requirement
Solid understanding of FCA regulations
Experience within the secured lending sector
Experience underwriting secured loans (1st or 2nd charge)
