Teaching Personnel is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Portsmouth, seeking a qualified English Teacher (QTS essential) to join their dedicated team on a full-time, term-time basis.
About SEMH Provisions:
SEMH schools cater to students who face complex social, emotional, and mental health challenges. These may stem from trauma, anxiety, behaviour disorders, or other adverse childhood experiences. These settings prioritise emotional well-being alongside academic development, offering smaller class sizes, therapeutic support, and highly personalised learning. Teaching in an SEMH setting requires adaptability, empathy, and a commitment to nurturing both the academic and emotional growth of young people. It’s a challenging environment—but also one of the most rewarding.
About the Role:
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4 (some Functional Skills and GCSE-level)
Work closely with support staff and other teachers to provide a consistent and supportive learning environment
Build strong relationships with students, many of whom may have low confidence or disrupted prior education
Implement behaviour management strategies with a restorative and trauma-informed approach
Contribute to the wider school ethos, including pastoral care and holistic development
Essential Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – applications without QTS cannot be considered
Experience teaching English in a secondary or specialist setting
A strong understanding of behaviour management and SEND/SEMH needs
A resilient, flexible, and nurturing approach to teaching
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
