Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Milton Keynes & Surrounding Areas (Bletchley, Wolverton, Newport Pagnell, and Olney) Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term About Us We are currently supporting a nurturing and inclusive school in Milton Keynes, also serving students from surrounding areas such as Bletchley, Wolverton, and Newport Pagnell. The school is dedicated to supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Role We are seeking a resilient, committed, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join Teaching Personnel on a full-time, long-term basis. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils who may face barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural challenges. You will work closely with class teachers and a multidisciplinary team to support pupils with a range of needs, specifically focusing on SEMH, ADHD, and attachment difficulties. Your role will be pivotal in helping students regulate their emotions and re-engage with their education. Key Responsibilities Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs. Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs, focusing on behavioral targets. Support pupils’ social and emotional regulation, using de-escalation techniques when required. Help create a positive, "nurture-first" classroom environment. Work collaboratively with teachers, mental health leads, and parents to track progress. Encourage independence and promote positive learning behaviours through praise and consistent boundaries. The Ideal Candidate Will: Have experience working with children with SEMH (within a school, youth work, or residential setting). Be patient, resilient, and thick-skinned, with a nurturing approach to challenging behaviour. Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly. Hold relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, or Team-Teach training – desirable but not essential). Have a deep understanding of safeguarding and the impact of trauma on childhood development.
