Job Title: SEMH Support Staff (Secondary/Primary) Location: SEMH School, Birmingham Employer: Aspire People Salary: Competitive, depending on experience About the Role: Aspire People are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Staff to join a dynamic team at a specialist SEMH secondary/primary school in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to thrive in an inclusive and supportive environment. As an SEMH Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting students on a 1:1 or small group basis, helping them overcome emotional and behavioural challenges while assisting them in their academic and personal development. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 support and work with small groups of students, assisting with both their academic progress and emotional well-being. Foster positive relationships with students, helping to build their self-esteem and confidence through proactive support. Use tailored strategies to manage behaviour, ensuring students are engaged, focused, and ready to learn. Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to develop and implement individual learning plans (ILPs) for students. Support students in overcoming social and emotional challenges by employing appropriate behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies. Provide feedback to teaching staff and parents on student progress, behaviour, and emotional development. Act as a role model for students, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience. Assist with general school activities, including helping with classroom organisation and supporting students during break times or off-site trips. Key Requirements: Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision setting. Strong understanding of SEMH needs and how to provide tailored support to students with emotional and behavioural challenges. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. A patient, empathetic, and calm approach to supporting children with complex needs. Ability to remain flexible, adaptable, and proactive in a fast-paced school environment.
