Are you an exceptional teacher with a deep-seated passion for transforming the lives of young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges? Do you thrive in an environment where your creativity and dedication can truly make a difference?
We are seeking a dynamic and resilient SEMH Teacher to join a highly supportive and dedicated team at a specialist SEMH school in Hull. This full-time, permanent position commencing in September 2025 offers an incredibly rewarding opportunity to shape the future of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils.
About the Role: More Than Just Teaching
This isn't just a teaching job; it's a chance to be a cornerstone in our students' journeys towards self-discovery and academic success. As an SEMH Teacher, you will:
Design and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons across a broad curriculum, expertly adapting your approach to meet the diverse and often complex learning needs of our KS3 and KS4 pupils. While the original advert specified Maths, we are seeking a versatile educator capable of delivering a range of subjects, with a particular focus on fostering core academic skills and a love for learning.
Cultivate a nurturing and stable classroom environment where every student feels safe, valued, and understood. Your classroom will be a sanctuary where pupils can develop their academic abilities alongside crucial social, emotional, and self-regulation skills.
Implement bespoke strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, using your patience, understanding, and proactive approach to guide students towards positive choices and engagement.
Champion inclusive education, celebrating every student's unique strengths and helping them overcome barriers to learning. You will recognize and respond to the underlying SEMH needs that impact academic progress and social development.
Collaborate seamlessly within a multidisciplinary team of dedicated professionals, including therapists, pastoral staff, and support workers. Your effective communication with pupils, parents, and colleagues will be vital in creating a holistic support network for each child.
Inspire and motivate pupils to achieve their full potential, fostering resilience, self-esteem, and a sense of accomplishment in a non-judgmental setting.
Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring all provisions are met and regularly reviewed.

To excel in this impactful role, you will possess:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent, recognised teaching qualification.
Demonstrable experience or a strong, evidenced interest in working with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Previous experience within an SEMH or SEND setting is highly advantageous.
A deep understanding of SEMH needs and a proven ability to implement effective strategies to support pupils with complex behaviours and emotional challenges.
Exceptional classroom management skills with a calm, patient, and empathetic approach, alongside the resilience to navigate challenging situations positively.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build strong rapport with pupils, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and engage constructively with parents and external agencies.
A creative and flexible approach to teaching, with the ability to differentiate lessons to meet individual learning styles and needs, ensuring every pupil can access the curriculum.
A comprehensive CV detailing your complete employment and education history since formal education, with all employment breaks clearly explained.
