The Role: Transformative Education in SEMH
Are you passionate about making a profound, long-lasting impact on the lives of young people facing significant barriers to learning?
We are seeking a resilient and dynamic Teacher to join our specialist provision in Blackpool, working with pupils who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We welcome applications from both Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS) and experienced, exceptional Unqualified Teachers/Instructors with a strong background in SEMH, behaviour management, or youth work.
This is more than a teaching job; it's an opportunity to deliver a tailored curriculum, manage complex behaviour, and apply trauma-informed practice daily, helping pupils achieve stability and academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Bespoke Teaching: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons across core subjects (e.g., English, Maths, Science) or vocational areas for small groups (typically 4-8 pupils).
Behaviour Management: Implement individualised behaviour support plans, utilising positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to promote a calm, safe learning environment.
Inclusion: Adapt and differentiate lessons to meet the varied learning needs and emotional regulation challenges of pupils with complex SEMH/EBD profiles.
Assessment & Reporting: Assess pupil progress, contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews, and maintain accurate records of academic and emotional development.
Teamwork: Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, support staff, the SENCO, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for every child.
What We're Looking For:
1. For Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS)
Essential: Full Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS.
Experience: Proven track record of successfully teaching and managing challenging behaviour, ideally within a mainstream, Alternative Provision (AP), or SEND setting.
Reward: Higher salary scale reflecting MPS/UPS plus a Special Educational Needs (SEN) allowance (up to £44,000+).
2. For Unqualified Teachers/Instructors
Essential: Significant, proven experience working with young people with SEMH/EBD in an educational, youth work, or residential setting.
Skills: Exceptional behaviour management skills, strong curriculum knowledge in at least one key subject area, and the ability to command respect while building rapport.
Reward: A competitive instructor salary reflective of your extensive experience (£25,000 - £31,000+).
All Candidates Must Possess:
A resilient, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour and emotional challenges.
A commitment to using trauma-informed practice.
Knowledge of current safeguarding procedures.
Why Join Our Blackpool Provision?
Impactful Work: Truly make a difference in pupils' lives, focusing on engagement and positive outcomes rather than just results.
Supportive Environment: Benefit from excellent internal support, specialist training, and continuous professional development (CPD) in therapeutic approaches.
Immediate Start: Opportunity for an immediate start or secure your role for January 2025.
Competitive Pay: Attractive salary package with clear progression routes.
