James Ray Recruitment are currently seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a specialist SEMH secondary school in Crosby, starting September on a temp-to-perm basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs in a structured and supportive school environment.

With continued demand for high-quality support staff, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on students’ development while working towards a long-term permanent position.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide both academic and behavioural support to students with social, emotional and mental health needs.

You will play a key role in helping students engage with learning, manage their emotions, and develop positive relationships within the classroom environment.

Your responsibilities may include supporting students 1:1 or in small groups, assisting with classroom activities, implementing behaviour strategies, and helping to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

This role is ideal for individuals who are resilient, patient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their full potential.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH, SEN, or behaviour support setting
• A calm, patient and resilient approach when working with challenging behaviours
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A genuine passion for supporting young people and their development
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
• Understanding of behaviour management strategies
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
• Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
• Team player willing to collaborate with teachers and support staff
• Commitment to safeguarding and supporting student wellbeing

Competitive daily rate (£90 – £110 per day depending on experience)
